The Results of Others
My life has not been the same since Saturday night. This past Saturday at PAX East, my friend and I atteneded a panel called, "Foreplay: Romancing in Video Games" and it was one of the best panels that we could ever attend.
In this panel, our panelists talked about the different things that are possible in romance in multiple video games and how the rise of romance in video games is upon us. There isn't much of a backlash from dating simulators as there once was when there was a lack of them. Now-a-days there is a multitude of dating simulators such as, "Hot Date", "Hatoful Boyfriend", "HuniePop" and many others. I, myself, have played two out of the three of those, because who doesn't like dating animated pugs that are condescending and who doesn't like bejeweled? I can say from experience that this games are very fun to play and are worth-while.
As the panel started, on of the panelists immediately started talking about one of the games that she has been playing and has been addicted to. I should've tuned out right then and there, because of what she said next has changed my life and I can't turn back now.
So she was talking about this new mobile game that she has been addicted to. It is a dating simulator, but it one of the more satirical dating simulators. It is called "My Horse Prince" and it is for all mobile devices. I can say that I have spent countless hours playing this game because of the satirical nature of dating a horse.
When you start off the game, you end up having type in your name. I typed in "Ubruk" because I thought that I was naming the horse. I didn't realize until episode 2 that I actually named the girl instead of the horse. So now I'm going around playing as "Ubruk" the weird female that fell in love with a horse bodied man.
Yes this game is about falling in love with a horse. However, it isn't just any horse, it is a horse with the face of a man. It is weird at first, but you start to love the game because of its wild nature. I know that I started to love the game, but I really wish that I didn't touch this game because now I'm addicted to dating a virtual horse with a man's face.
Now here comes the things that I think are very odd about this game. When you start playing you will notice huge art differences between some characters. For instance, your character and the horse look like they were created for a japanese anime, while the farmer, dog, and brother characters look like they were drawn by a five year old. It adds comedic value to the game because you think to yourself, "Why would anyone do this?", but you have to realize that you are playing a game to date a weird looking horse and you are becoming addicted to it. Therefore, don't think about it too often.
Also in the game, the horse can do human-like things. For instance in episode 2 the horse runs on treadmills, like many treadmills and when he is done, he does this jump that looks like it would kill a horse, and depending on his happy level he will do different things. Also in the game, the horse randomly comes to your house and is like, "I'm cooking for you whether you like it or not" and your character just doesn't question it which is one of the weirdest things that I've noticed in the game.
When the horse is making you food, he is cutting leaks for the miso soup and he states that he doesn't want to get hurt so he is using the 'claw' method. If you don't know what the 'claw' method is, it is when your use a fist instead of your fingers being out when cutting so that you don't cut your fingers. The horse doesn't have fingers! Why does he use this method if he doesn't have fingers!!
All in all, I do have to say that this is a great game, and it is very addicted! I have used countless hours to play this game! I love this game an...Oh! My talks with the horse have been regained! Uh.. uh.. Time to play. Bye!
